Search@UW - Everything Search

How to Find Materials in the Library

The library uses the Library of Congress System to organize materials.

To find a book, DVD, or CD:

  1. Use Search@UW to find call numbers for known items
  2. Write down the item's call number (example: DS559.46 .H35 1986)
  3. Use our handy guide to help you understand call numbers (See PDF link below)
  4. When you are ready to find your item in the library, use the signs at the end of each shelf to find where your call number is located.
  5. If you need help, ask a librarian!

Recommended Books at the Library

These are just a few of the titles you'll find in the library. You can request books using Search@UW or by browsing the stacks. Use the call numbers listed for each item to find the book on the shelf, or browse call numbers beginning with "HQ" to find additional titles in LGBT studies.
