FOX Citing Sources: Using NoodleTools

A guide to citations.

Create a Noodle Tools Account

  1. Go to NoodleTools 
  2. Click Create Personal ID
  3. Complete the form by filling in a user name and password.
  4. Fill in the Log-in Retrieval information
  5. Click Register

Creating a Works Cited/Reference List

  1. Click +New Project on the upper left side of the page.   
  2. Choose the citation style you need: MLA, APA, or Chicago
  3. Choose Advanced under citation level
    • This doesn't make it harder. It gives you all the options for any type of source.
  4. Add a name for your project in the Project Title box and click Submit.
  5. Click on Sources at the top of the page.
  6. Click +Create New Citation.
  7. First question will ask where you found it, choose one.
    • Select the type of source (usually Journal, Magazine, Newspaper, Book, or Web Page)
  8. Fill in the blanks with the information you have about the source (title, author, date, etc.).
    • If there are any errors, yellow warning triangles will show up.
    • You can also add an annotation if you need one.
    • Or Click Quick Cite to copy and paste a pre-formatted citation
  9. When you have filled in all the information you have, click Submit.
  10. Keep going until you have added all of the sources you're using.
  11. Click Print/Export to create a Word document to print, e-mail or save.
